Daine and I went to the fifth annual Freedom's Call Military Tattoo at the United States Air Force Musuem on friday.... It is a little parade of air force planes, a concert, and a fireworks display.... Here are some pics we took....
It all took place behind the Air Force museum...If any of you are ever passing through Dayton be sure to make time for this place ( pretty much takes all day to see most of it, if you are into planes then two days ). It is free so you really can't beat the price .
Behind the Museum, from our parking spot.... each of the buildings are HUGE, and stuffed full of planes, blimps, displays, etc..., the round building in back is full of rockets and missiles. Plans to add a fourth hanger for a soon-to-be-decomissioned space shuttle and more are in the works...
Panoramic view of a corner of Wright-Patt AFB...
actualy most of the hangars in the background are parts of the museum....
Well the show started off with some parachuters....
Then come the planes... one every 5 minutes or so.... it's hard to get a good pic with with my cheap camera, so this is what I got...
C-47 Skytrain
P-51 Mustang
B-25 Mitchell
Not sure what this is...
OMG LOOK OUT!!!! lol
B-52 Stratofortress
NASA ER-2... (U-2 Spyplane?) This plane was incredibly loud and went into a vertical climb, it went strait up until you couldn't hear it anymore and dissapeared from view
C-5 Galaxy.... Absolutely HUGE, it makes two passes.... the second time around it approaches with it's engines off.... that's right it just glides in, the wingspan on this is 222 feet, amazing something this large can sneak up on you... also, these monsters are always roaring around in the skys around here they are just so loud, but boy are they neat!!!
B-2 Spirit... incredibly quiet!!!! We could actually hear the air rushing over it's hull.....
2 F-15's... and to close the show two F-15 approached very slowly, and then went full throttle right in front of the crowd into a climb.... the display of power is really amazing... impossible to describe the noise ( makes a drag race seem quiet )...
Afterburners....
And it was a beautiful night for fireworks.....
....but I was too tired to mess with 75,000 people trying to exit at once ( last year it took 2 hours to get home, normally 10 minutes ) so we left before the fireworks.... We really only go for the planes anyway, so it was all good ;D....
Hope you enjoyed my Friday night ....
Chris
