Chris and I headed out to the Prineville pow-wow Wednesday evening after I got off of work and we stayed in a motel in Baker City that night. Thursday morning we headed up to Biggs to pick up the rest of a pile of Biggs jasper that I had bought last month. After we got that loaded we headed to Prineville and met up with Scott (free2rockhound) and Bryan (cutter) who were staying at the Ochocho reservoir campgrounds. When we got there, there was one camping spot left so we grabbed it and set up our tent.
We got in touch with Dan (highplainsdrifter) and we all decided to meet at Richardsons' Ranch at 7 am. When we got there Dan was there with his family and also Bill (Wildshack) and his friend David.
We all signed in and headed up to the Pony Butte beds, where we filled a few buckets full of some eggs and Bryan found some cool jasper lookin stuff that he got quite a bit of. Of course I was too busy lookin at the ground to get any pictures here.
We then decided to move to the Moss egg beds, this is hard rock mining and we spent about 4 hours here chiseling eggs out of the rock. I left with about half a bucket full. We did get one picture.
Scott taking a break
Then we moved down to the Red bed and filled a bucket there.
We were getting tired and hot and about ready to leave when Chris said she thought someone was stuck at the Moss bed because she could hear their engine revving trying to get out.
We were going to head back and see if we could help, and when we got there, John from the Ranch had brought in a backhoe to help dig moss eggs out for the pow wow field trip.
I did get some pictures here as we had to wait for John to knock the overburden down before anyone could get into the hole.
John knocking the overburden down. That is my lovely wife Chris sitting there in the white t-shirt.
Scott waving to everyone
people picking eggs
I am checking out the discard pile, that is Bryan to the far left
We decided to hang out here for a while and we all got more buckets than we could really afford.
The next day we all met up by Walton Lake and looked for Ochocho moss and Vista-ite. We did find some good pieces and lots of float. All in all it was a great day with good friends. Again I was walking around looking at the ground and never did get one picture.
I did find one huge piece of agate, hope it has moss in it.
That is it nestled in between the buckets.
We spent the afternoon at Elkins rock shop going through the 10 cent a pound pile and getting a few things like crazy lace and wasco-ite. We met up with John (Pebblepup) there. Then we headed to the Prineville Reservoir to hang out with Dan and his family at the cool place they rented there. Wait till you see his pics, what a view.
On the way back Chris and I stopped at the fairgrounds and we met up with Woody (woodyrock) and Garry (mossyrockhound).
Was good to finally meet these friends I hadn't ever met before. (I borrowed that from Stoner!)
We were going to hit glass butte on the way home, but we decided we probably had enough of a load and we just headed home early Sunday morning. We left at 7 am and got to the house at 4:30 pm, just in time for my nap! Then after it cooled off I started unloading, may take a few days to get it all unloaded.
I did get some pics of it in the driveway. The saw was one I hauled up there for Dale Rhode but we never did quite get hooked up.
Some of the Biggs
I traded some of my Biggs for some of Bryan's Brazilians
The haul from Richardson's and from Walton Lake
I wish I would have gotten more pictures of the people, but like I said I was just wandering around lookin at the ground and most likely mumbling to myself. I will work on the picture thing next trip.
Thanks for lookin..................Tony
