This last week whilst at the Prineville Pow Wow, Mossyrockhound, and I were off in the Ochochos doing some prospecting, and came apon a vein of Rice agate. At first, we thought we had found dino bone. Here are a couple of shots of our find. Woody

I have a chunk of rock that looks almost like that. I got it in one of catmandewes grab boxes. Can you shed some light on how it got its name and how it formed

It got its name by me because it looks like the Rice agate from the east that is not actually agate but petrified protozoans (I think). Anyhow, whilst we were prospecting for something else, I came on this material in an exposed vein. Visually, it is agate, and is also hard. A couple of pieces have red in them, so there is hope for something pretty. I have cut a couple of slabs, and they have held together so far. Next step is to cab a piece. Woody
