Since Naturenut turned me on to local rocks I've been collecting at different places and from other local rockhounds. I've gotten some pretty interesting stuff over the last few months. I was fishing with my daughter last Friday at a local stream. Here she is fishing And her biggest fish, a 7" sunny. And littlest, a 2" rock bass. You can see the rocks in the background. I noticed they had recently put in a new pipe under the bed of the stream and that they had fist sized quarry rocks in part of the trench. Looking closer I noticed that some had some local minerals. I picked up six rocks to bring them home slice them open. Here are a couple. Phrenite veins in an unknown black rock. I believe this is epidote or olivine. This one really blew my mind though. Its by far the best local rock I've ever collected or bought. One of the halves might end up as cabs but not until after I find someone to polish it on a flat lap for me.

What a cutie! She's gonna break some hearts. Beautiful and likes to fish. That last one is a mind blower Tony. You gotta get out there and find some more of that! Curt

What a sweet fishing buddy you have. I bet you two have a lot of fun together. The rocks you found are great. It's a blast cutting them open and getting such an incredable surprise like that last one.

WOW Honey, I never saw these pics since I have been away. The sunny Autumn caught is a beauty. I know you were anxious to go fishing with her, I like the pink and blue pole she has! That last rock is something else!!!! You might have to get a flat lap sooner than you planned! Amber

Mary Ann, I put the worms on for her. She has touched worms before but I wouldn't want her messing with a sharp hook. I was using lures and she out fished me 6 to 2 in the hour we were there.
Amber, Its a Barbie fishing pole. Is there any other kind? lol

Keep that little girl fishing!! My 6 year old grand daughter LOVES to fish and ANYTHING that gets kids out from in front of the tv and in nature is great for them. She might even start picking up rocks too!

Whoaoah, that epidote in black matrix is killer! You hunt down the source of that stuff and I for one would pay ten bucks a pound, assuming it's all hard and polishes. Also, good on ya for taking the youngster out fishing, we need more kids who love the outdoors!
