Howdy folks, I'm sure lots of you guys have whitetails around but, being used to the wilder mulies, I still find whitetail quite charming. Just a couple of pics.....Mel Sometimes they're cute! And sometimes, they're just goofy!

Mel, we have a doe and fawn coming through our yard almost every morning. The fawn is tiny. Probably not over a couple weeks old.

Mel, she's just getting closer to give you a kiss.

I love looking at deers. Now, is the second one in an enclosure or trying to get in with the bribe of a kiss? We had a power plant in San Angelo that had a lot of property around it and completely fenced. There were hundreds of deer that lived there. I think they felt safe. No hunters and all the grass they could eat. They can clear a 9 foot fence so it makes it hard to keep them out. Fran

Fran: That's the doe we call Sweetpea sticking her head through our deer fence ( We're in the enclosure to keep them off my hummingbird and butterfly gardens etc. She's outside). She knows if she follows me around the edge of the yard she'll eventually make me feel guilty so I give here a treat.....Mel

Great pictures Mel! We've got a doe with twins hanging out in the mornings and evenings. I just love it when they get a wild hair up their rear and just go off being silly... jumping, sprinting, shaking their heads. It looks as though they're just having fun.
The wife gets a little angry with their taste for flower heads, but we do enjoy having them hang out.

Mel,I put tomato cages around all my vegetables, made of concrete reinforcing wire. One morning one of my cucumber cages was gone,I thought what the heck? Then I looked out to the pasture and saw my mangled cage. I would have loved to have a video of that doe with a cage on her head.

They're so cute/pretty! Deers are one of my all-time favorite animals to watch...except anywhere near a road. Kansas is getting pretty overrun with them recently, and the roads just get dangerous for a couple months.

akansan,I know what you mean about the roads. I hit a $1700 doe over a year ago.

Boy you folks are right! At night these deer are suicidal and the Blackbuck are even worse. They're faster and make these 30 foot jumps across the road. Man, I drive real careful and still have had a close call or two.....Mel
