I have a 8 in. expandable Lorotone grinder unit that I love. I am using the overhead direct water supply but it splashes. I remember seeing at one time discussions on splash guards but I have been unable to find them. Any one have suggestions? Need help

I assume it has the factory housing or splash pan and hood? The best way to cut down the spray with an overhead system is to add a curtain at the hood. I use plastic "air curtain" material from when I was in the refrigeration trade. I've seen leather, inner tubes, green scrubbies, canvas, etc. As long as it hits top of wheels it will cut down some of the spray. You have to work below the curtain. You should be working near bottom of wheel anyway. A vinyl apron is a good investment.

Mount a paint brush (parallel) at the top edge of the wheel to hold spray to a minimum too.

Best thing that I have found is a plastic oil bottle cut to fit over the edge of the wheel. Use the flat side of the bottle.

I am not familiar with the Lortone grinder as I have a Gryphon Studio when I am grinding, I have a piece of cardboard on either side of the Gryphon and it is a great splash guard.
And ... I do my grinding in the kitchen ... so worse case scenario, I have to wipe it up. Small price to pay.

Great Ideas! How do you attach the paint brush? Thanks for offer of plastic, my husband laid down some heavy plastic. My Lorotone unit is in it's original housing and I do wear a thick vinyl apron but it still seems that water goes everywhere. I don't work in the kitchen but in my painting studio upstairs. We are redoing half the garage so I can separate the painting and the lapidary. Thanks everyone,

I have a couple Lortone units. I went to Home Depot and borrowed some of the carpet sample they gice away and mounted that in front of the wheel on the top. On the side I used a 8"x10" pc of plexi glass and just stand it loose. The sell the plexi glass that size you don't have to cut it. I sill wear an apron because og the splash.

Thanks everyone, Drill a hole & bolt it in place is best, next would be to fashion a metal clip to hold it on, then we get into gluing (liquid nails, silicone adhesives etc.). Lastly is getting your mate o hold it for you (slim chance there ). Dr Joe .

Overhead systems are best used in the garage or some place where it won't hurt to wet the floor. You can adjust the water down too. All you need is to keep rock dust down and diamond belt clean and cool. Excess water isn't really helping.

Wizard, I don't know who said anything about putting your plastic on the floor. I mentioned overhead systems even with splash curtains and reduced water flow would not be ideal used in a house on a non-water proof floor.
