I spend most of my time down in the pit shopping for agates and pretties...but occasionally I have to make some money doing something, so this is what I do.

Very cool! I'm amazed by people who decorate cakes.
I always think I might want to try it and then I remember I don't like to bake! ;D

Nice anniversary and wedding cake! My husband decorates cakes (when he feels like it) so I can really appreciate all the work that goes into them! Fran

Very nice!! I can't even bake a pan of brownines, so I can't imagine the skill that goes into something like that! Hey if Tony and I ever get married you can make our cake decorated with rocks! Might not be able to afford the trip for delivery though Amber

Well...gotta go shoppin' in the pit, had my coffee for the day...I'll talk to ya later. Maybe I'll find some more goodies for you guys to look at................ I AM SO STINKIN EXCITED TODAY! You are NOT gonna believe what I found while shopping in the pit! Here's the list: HUGE peice of "whatthehellisthat" Gigantic peice of "THAT'Snotanagate" And one enormous piece of "I'mnotcarryin'thatbacktothehouse" Then I found some thing that I thought you'd like to see. I thought at first about posting them on the "new cool rocks" thread, but, that is in the buy/sell, wanna leave that open for what it's meant for. Not sure what this is...but This rock is just way too cool The group of agates and jasper pieces Then I was overcome by a serious case of "ohmyGodI'mhungry", So I came back to the house. There ya go...

Cool cakes and some very sweet banded agates there. Then I was overcome by a serious case of "ohmyGodI'mhungry", So I came back to the house. It's a good thing you got the munchies when you were rock hounding instead of cake decorating. Believe me, newlyweds get really oversensitive when there's a slice missing. They'll bounce you out of the reception AND keep the toaster oven!

hahahaha!!! Yeah, they tend to be a bit, shall we say.....picky? about the cake!! I love baking and decorating them...but I'm not much of a cake eater...my husband however? Yeah, sst down a week ago and ate all but 1 piece of an 8" square cake........after supper! What I wanna know is...how the heck he stays so stinkin thin!! If I ate like that...I'd be in trouble.

Cool cakes! great job on those - I'd like to know how you got the bottom tiers to fit in the oven!
I took a cake decorating class a few years ago and i loved it - much better than slapping icing on the cake and adding candles! I made a small wedding cake with a frog couple and an icing pond complete with lilypads, catails & marsh flowers!
I end up licking much of the icing off my fingers and getting a sugar rush at the end just before bed!
My hat's off to you cuz I know it's a lot of work!

Thanks! Yeah, by the time I get one of these done...and I've done a lot bigger ones, I feel like I am coated in sugar from head to foot. Not that I have all that much on me, but I still do. I love doing them, and I do them extremely cheap, so people can afford them. The top one? 275.00, and the bottom I think I charged her 150.00 plus flowers cuz she wanted real ones. I figure that everything else with the "wedding" tag on it is really expensive...so they might as well get something else with the money they save on the cake.

By the way bejewel, I once took an 11 tier cake 400+ miles...Nothing at all happened to it...no repairs to make when I got there. Just set it up, take some pics, and leave. I was a nervous wreck for many hours in that car!! I think we stopped every 50 miles to check on it and make sure it was ok.

Ok Marie!
Iron Chef Challenge, make a cake incorporating rocks, take pic and then let hubby eat it!
LOL
I need a good Red Velvet cake recipe, not that I could make it, but the bakery where my Mom used to always get me one for my b-day closed many years ago, and ever since all the red velvet we try is nasty! That makes for a good cake!!!

I don't give out my recipies ...not because of anything except some are really old family stuff, BUT the BEST thing and closest to home made flavor is a Duncan Hines Red Velvet cake mix. It really IS very good, and the closest you'll come to home made. The trick to a box mix?? follow the directions precisely, AND after you pull it out of the oven, put it on a plate you can cover right away, while it's still hot, cover the cake until it cools. The steam you see, will help keep the cake very moist, and OHHH SO YUMMY!! As for frosting, which is generally the best part of the cake, They also make a very good cream cheese frosting to smear all over it. My icing is home made, and I do not use shortening as the main ingredient, I use a product I have to order out of California, and pay 80.00 to get a tub of it here, but it's worth it! That is what sells my cakes, the frosting. In case you are wondering, I am already thinking of a way I can do a cake with a rock theme...
This may take me a bit, but I'll figure it out.

OK Marie, I will check it out. You know Red Velvet started at the Waldorf Astoria, there is a recipe on line, maybe you can try it some time, it seems hard for me!
Ok, waiting for that cake!!! Yummmy

Wilton.com has recipes & amazing buttercream frosting (I normally think frosting is too sickly sweet - specially the jarred stuff) but their's are AMAZINGINGLY amazing! Their cake recipes are good too Here's the link: search.wilton.com/?q=velvet
