I got my tumbler yesterday and it's already tumbling some quartz I have found around here. There was not enough grit that came with the tumbler to recharge, so I am in the market for grit. I will probably buy 5 lbs. of each to get me going.
It seems from reading all the threads on grit, that the first step uses more grit than the second and third steps. Is this correct or am I misunderstanding.
I am wondering if I should buy a bit more of the course grit than of the medium grit and pre-polishing grit. Or do all stages use about the same amount of grit?
Trying to pinch pennies where I can so that I can get another tumbler soon!

The first two stages use the same amount of grit per load, however; you will run many more rough cycles than any other. Hence, you will need much more rough than the other sizes. Stage two would be the second biggest user. Stages three and four will be somewhat less.

Thanks! That is kind of what I gathered from reading the forum and other websites, but wanted some feedback from a more experienced tumbler before ordering more grit .
