Chris and I went down to Moab this weekend to hang out with some RTH friends and do a little rock hounding along the way.
I am terrible at taking pictures, so I gave Chris a camera and I took a camera and between the two of us, we almost got enough pictures to make a thread!
First off we stopped at the Pigeon blood agate spot that Ozzy, Scott, and I found last year when we went down there, I just had to show Chris. We spent about an hour there and collected a couple backpack loads of tumble material and some stuff we may try to cut up, although most of it is fractured fairly bad and may not cut. Of course neither one of us pulled out a camera the whole time we were there because we were walking around with our eyes glued to the ground!
We then headed down to Moab and met up with a gentleman from Colorado who was meeting us in Moab with a saw. We waited for him at the local overpriced rock shop in Moab, then after he got there and we got the saw moved into our pickup, Chris and I had some time to kill so we went to Arches National Park to check it out.
My darling wife did get some pictures here, so I don't have to make any excuses for no pics for a while.
Arches NP
look at the arch on the left, the little white speck in there is a person walking through the arch
And of course the adventure would not be complete without the obligatory breakdown, luckily it was only a broken valve stem on a tire.
Since this was the second bad valve stem in a week I decided I better head to town and get the other two changed as well. I found a tire shop who changed all my valve stems for new ones. Something I didn't want to do on the way home, especially if I was far from a main road.
We then went to the motel where everyone was staying and met up with everyone.
Amber, Brian, John, and Ioana out in the parking lot
Adrian, Tony and Amber
Ina, Adrian and Tony
Chris and Amber telling lies about their men
We all went out to dinner Saturday night but neither one of us got any pictures of that either.
Sunday morning we went out to Breakfast before Chris and I headed out for home and the rest of the gang headed for the Park.
We all said goodbye right out in the street.
Brian was kind of hiding out
Brian and Tony
Ioana, Adrian and Ina
John
Adrian and I
Ioana practicing for her modeling job
And Tony lighting Amber's fire
On the way home Chris and I stopped at Woodside to check out a collecting area we found in one of the old books Tony and Amber gave us.
Here is the main collecting area from afar
Here it is closer up, the main collecting area is on the sluff off the steep part of the hill.
We did find lots of red and clear agate, and some greenish colored stuff also, but I think the find of the day was this
one with a paleo pick for size reference
We left it there, as fossils are illegal to collect, but it was cool to find it anyways.
We also stopped in Lucin, Utah on the way home and looked around to see what was there. We found some cool green stuff, but I think it is too hard to be variscite, but we brought some home anyways!
Watch the competition section for a chance to win some of the stuff we collected along the way.
I had a blast and it was a huge privilege to get to meet everyone!!
Thanks for lookin...............Tony
PS, Steve we really missed ya and we still love ya............
maybe next time...........Tony
