ok john - gave it alot of thought and opted for the old hammer method. i have pieces of cotton t-shirt in my hair and all over my shirt; couple of knuckles are scratched off, lips are completely numb from biting them without knowing it until i no longer could feel them, arms are jello - BUT - my unakite is now in small, medium and large pieces and after i can use my arms again i will load my tumbler. i've been busting rocks since i was a kid and this was the ultimate challenge yet. it started out fairly easy and got down to 3 pieces that would not comply but i won out.
a friend just called and said they had called earlier while i was outside hammering and my child told them "mommy is outside talking to the rocks". hope she doesn't repeat any of that talk!

i'd say when she repeats it i'd blame it on her daddy but if it was really something she heard me say she'll tell on me...."nuh uh mommy you said when you were busting rocks". i'm just waiting on my neighbors to ask me what i'm building. some can only hear the hammering but the ones on the west side can see me sitting on the ground pounding away. we're out in the country so nobody's close enough to be sure what i'm doing. i'm thinking i'll tell 'em i'm making my horses some new shoes!

Greetings All, Unakite is a type of granite, no wonder it was so hard to break. All I've ever done so far is to use a hammer, not having a saw or grinding wheel makes that my only option. BUT, I must admit there is a bit of fun in spending an hour or so smashing rocks, it relives stress, works out my frustrations and allows me to be creatively destructive. I just wouldn't want to have to do it for a living though WilliamC

which of these things could i tumble with the unakite if i need some extra filler rock: rose quartz, blue quartz, green adventurine, jasper, leopard skin, mexican crazy lace, green tree agate, or driveway gravel?
