I have been using adrian's superb tutorial for groove wrapping. A problem I am having is in making the bail. The fourth picture in his tutorial shows where I am having a problem. The way the wire is being held, when I try that with my pliers, the outside wire always slips out. The pliers are only holding the inner wire. This happens with both my flat nosed and chain nose pliers. The tools I have are not the higher priced good quality tools. Might that be my problem, the jaws do not meet properly? If I squeeze harder, I will most likely distort the wire. Since the wire will be covered in that spot, is it ok to squeeze the wire that hard? Thank you for any pointers!

I am going to watch this thread closely.
I have a great deal of trouble with the bail. I seem to be all thumbs when it comes to it.
That and patience is not one of my better traits. ;D

Squeeze harder. I have a regular pair of electrical needle nose pliers I use for that step. They mark the heck out of the wire, but as you mentioned it gets covered up there so no problem.

If the tool marks are made on silver only, you can use cratex?sp wheels and a dremel tool to take them out prior to final polish with Zam. Do not use this tip on golf filled wire!!!!!

Thanks for the tips! Scott, I have taken your suggestion and squeezed much harder. It does help and I did not seriously mar the wire.
