I took my sister's kids to scramble over the rock pile at River Bend Lapidary. JR was very nice and we had a blast. I underwrote a bag of rocks for each niece and nephew: Here is everybody's parcel: (click thumbnails for larger) Margret got some nice dino bone, crazy lace, and even a bit of Noreena. There is also an amazing slab of sagenite: Katie got some crazy lace slabs, some amythest lace chunks (with pink), and a nice Parrall (?) dendritic agate. Also one slab with sunbursts that I thought was Lysite from Utah, but JR said was from West Texas: Jacka had eyes for Brazilian, but also found some poppy jasper and a nice chunk of Rocky Butte: Philip got crazy lace, Noreena, and some blue tiger eye, and a chunk of Brazillian: ... and of course I had to get a bit because I am a compulsive rock shopper. Nice chunk of Mookite with lots of purple, three dino bone slabs, cherry orchid, fancy jasper, crazy lace ... my sister picked up some rock too, but it is all going in her fish tank. She liked the green & blue picture jaspers and really like the thick plate of tiger iron: we picked up the tile saw on the way home and after school today there will be cutting. Next is going to be an upgrade to the Thumlers dual 3lb tumbler.

Yep, I've been to J.R.'s place, and it's hard not to go nuts and be like a kid in a candy shop! He has the most amazing collection of not just rocks, but TONS of rocks, and huge piles of slabs, and ...... and he gets to live in the Hill Country of Texas, close to a big lake, and ...... Can you tell I'm a bit envious? LOL! ;D Tom

Now that sounds wonderful! I bet the kids loved being able to pick out a bunch of rocks to their own tastes. I would love to have a rock shop like that around here! Fran

Wow! Great haul of rocks! Just where is JR's shop located? I'd like to take me a drive over there if it's in the hill country....Mel

Daniel, Thanks a lot. I've got to go over to Bourne to shop for an Aussie saddle for my wife to use on her favorite horsie and that's not very far from Bourne at all. I'll have to check on JR's phone number and give him a call....Mel

Mel, J.R.'s a real nice dude - and the drive to his place is about as purty as it gets around here, too. When I was there, I stood around drooling over his several slab saws, piles and piles and crates and crates of absolutely gorgeous slabs, etc. You'll like it.
