Does anyone know where I could find a big enough pieces of the following rough to make a 7 inch diameter sphere?
- Morgan Hills Poppy Jasper - Ocean Wave Agate - Fantasy Jasper (not fancy jasper) - Kaleidoscope Jasper - Tiffany Stone

The stone would have to be big enough to be core drilled in two perpendicular directions with a 7 inch diameter core drill

Sounds serious. Trying to corner the bowling ball market?

Whew! Those would have to be big pieces and those are all fairly expensive and scarce materials. I think your best bet would be to hit one of the big outdoor shows ie: Snyder's Pow Wow, Quartzite, Clouds etc. I've seen large fairly good boulders of some of those things at that kind of show but usually way out of my price range and of course the Morgan Hill would be fairly heavily fractured. Only one guy mines kaleidoscope jasper and he's a member of this forum ( Dale Rhodes of Rhodescabbin) though there are several materials that go by that common name........Mel

You're gonna pay a fortune for the Morgan Hill, if it can even be had......considering most of that material is now buried.......as in freeways and such (I believe, correct me if Im wrong).

Ya I know the Morgan Hills will be expensive and I need to find a fairly solid piece. I have tried emailing Dale Rhodes about the Kaleidoscope Jasper, but he hasnt returned my email. Maybe I will try to contact him through this message board

Yeah, the Morgan Hill will be a tough one. At Snyders a couple of years ago, some folks had a lot of rough for sale. I think Ed ( Stoner) picked up some nice cabbing stuff but most was fairly fractured. Hornitos Poppy jasper is more often found in unfractured pieces. A guy at Snyders had several pieces that would fill your bill but it was $15 per pound. The Ocean Wave was there in sizable hunks too but was also $15 per pound. Usually a piece large enough for a sphere as big as you want would be like 50# or more in size and I've never even seen Tiffany or Fantasy in hunk that big....Mel

Fantasy jasper, is that the same as Sci-Fi jasper or porcelain jasper? I know where big pieces of that are.

I have been looking for the Morgan Hills for a couple years now. I have found a couple of pieces but they were too fractured. I have a Porcelian Jasper (light purple) The Fantasy is the red one

A solid piece of Morgan Hill that size is certainly unusual. Morgan Hill jasper is by it's nature loaded with fractures. This weekend I am going to a shop that has a lot of really nice Morgan Hill PJ and I'll take a look. It's also $16 a pound. I usually pick up a few pieces even at that price! It's a wonderful stone.
