No idea, sorry. Too bad about the blade.

tough to tell from the photo, do you have a picture of the piece it was cut from?

Nobody wants to take a guess at this one? Surely someone out there has seen something like this before. Tom PS - if I knew how to do it, I'd move this thread over to the Rock Identification Library topic.

Can't identify it but by the saw marks I'd say you need a much better blade. Are you cutting with a tile or lapidary blade? It looks like an agate or jasper but don't know from where.

John - it was an MK Diamond MK-99 blade. I've now switched to the MK HDTCM blade from Home Depot that Mel put me onto. It's cutting better than the MK-99 blade was, for sure, and at $9, if it dies, it's not a very big hole in the wallet. Haven't tried cutting another slab from this rock with the HDTCM blade, though, so not sure what it'll do.
Fran ("Frane") says the slab looks like "iguana jasper", which I've not heard of before, but then, I've not heard of most of these rocks before! ;D
Thanks,
Tom

If I had to make a guess, I'm saying it's some sort of chert....
