I met Adrian, Ina & Ioana in Ogallala, NE, on Friday afternoon, at the pet wood museum.
Adrian took a gazillion pix, so I will just do a few.
Adrian was intrigued with how these large stumps had been polished. (Remember the huge stump he dragged home awhile ago? )
We got a personal tour from Harvey, one of the twin brothers who started the museum. He also took us across the street into the basement of the building that will, sometime in the future, house the museum. He was very generous with some slabs he had sitting around! The Prodescus chose a few, and Harvey stuck them in an old cigar box.
After the museum, we grabbed a quick bite at Taco Bell/KFC, then headed south to Imperial. Ioana rode with me, and A & I followed, each car with a handy walkie-talkie so they could ask questions.
We saw a lot of....guess what? Corn! and other farm crops. ;D
Once in Imperial, I checked them into the Balcony House Bed & Breakfast, where hostess Linda gave them a tour and showed them to the Sunflower Suite. You should have seen their faces, folks! Our little B & B is really neat! They followed me home to learn where I lived (about 5 blocks due south, haha), then returned to the Balcony House to unpack. An hour later, they were at my door, where we visited not nearly long enough! They also got a 'kitty fix' with my Penelope and Garfield.
The next morning, they met us at my house again, and we made a quick trip to Champion, NE (7 miles) to visit Champion Lake and the old mill and dam. I had sent pictures 2 years ago, when the lake flooded and the dam kinda broke, and knew A was intrigued with the old dam mechanism. As engineers, A and I were impressed with how it all worked; 3 stories of machines run off of 1 water powered drive shaft, using a system of belts and smaller drive shafts. It must have been crazy when it was all running!
Adrian took a bunch of pix of that, so I will let him post those.
Then we stopped at Mom's house, said a quick hello to Mom and other family members, and headed to Alco to buy glue to replace the duct tape on their car ;D and a larger suitcase. And clothes for Ioana, haha!
Next on the NE agenda was a trip to my brother-in-law's farm.
Greg and his son Stephen were ready with big ass tractors, something Greg calls a highboy, a mule and a 4-wheeler.
See the looks on their faces? They are looking at the highboy... ;D
Here's Greg's modified contraption, haha. He uses it to drive down corn rows without harming the corn, even when it's really tall. It's very ingenious!! Safe? Of course it's safe!
Well, needless to say, no one rode that. Altho my nephew Teren really, really wanted to!
Adrian was up for a ride in the big ass Case! We never did get Ina in there.
I know you can't tell from the pic, folks, but guess who was driving when they came back into the yard?
Hmmm. Was it Adrian, or was it GPS? I'll never tell.
My hubby Tom, son Phil and my nephews had fun with all the other 'toys'.
We did get Ina on the mule, with A driving, haha, to make the trek thru the bean field to check out a center pivot sprinkler. Hey, they are engineers, they understood all that technical hydraulic stuff and asked very intelligent questions! Personally, I just believe in magic.
We did persuade Ioana to do a photo op, once the big ass tractor was shut down.
On the way home, I noticed another little photo op!
I yelled SNAKE! They said WHERE! A said WHERE'S MY CAMERA, I tossed him mine while I was gently skidding and backing up, and he got 'er done!
(Karen is taking a short break now)
