Hey all,
Yesterday Dennis and I took the kids to the Willamette Valley show. This is the best show of the year in our area. Lots of outdoor vendors, plenty of slabs and rough along with the usual specimens/jewelry/fossils etc.
It was raining when we got there. I was digging through boxes of slabs with the rain dripping down the crack of my A$$. LOL I heard one vendor say "you can tell the true rockhounds, they're the ones out in the rain, the rest head for cover!" The wind was pretty bad too. A few times some tents almost blew over. Lucky for us, after a couple of monsoon-like showers, it stopped and the sun came out.
My favorite vendors are the ones with the 10, 25, and 50 cent bins of slabs. I could hang out at those all day long. Im always lookin for a good deal and rarely pay more than a buck a slab. The girls each got $20 and they ran off to wheel and deal. And they DO. Imagine a cute little Lillie saying to a vendor "ohhhh I really like that one, but it costs 75 cents more than I have. *insert puppy dog face here* The vendor caves and gives it to her anyway. They end up with more free stuff than you can imagine. Its really nice of the vendors to keep the kids interested by giving them free tumbled stones and such.
Ok, I will quit babbling.......here's the pics:
Some nice intarsia:
Some vendors covered everything during the monsoon-like showers:
Had to break for lunch.......rock shows are hard work! Morgan with her teenage scowl whenever someone points a camera at her:
A couple of large Amethyst geodes, with Morgan and Lillie for size comparison:
I had no clue Den and Morgan were doing bunny ears!
Here is what we brought home:
I had been wanting to try out this material for years....Dennis bought a few pieces for me. Youngite:
Our 10 cent finds:
25 cent finds:
A face!
50 cents finds:
$1 and up:
This was a major splurge for me. $5 for this slab but oh boy, the doublets that I see in it!
Here's something I have NEVER allowed myself the luxury of getting. I love anything orbicular and OJ is no exception. However, the prices drive me nuts and I refuse to pay them! My honey Dennis had me pick out a few little one cab pieces and he's going to make me a pretty cab to set in a piece of jewelry for myself. Thanks sweetie!
It was a really great family day for us, we had a lot of fun. Thanks for lookin!
Shannon
