This is probably old news to you old pros but I came up with an idea on how to keep slabs separate on the vibe lap so the edges of the slabs don't get chipped. I tried using loops of plastic hose but they always seem to vibrate out of the way. I had some extra 6" plastic sewer pipe laying around so I cut it into 3/4" pieces: And used it to isolate the slabs. For those slabs a little too big to fit I cut the ring and then inserted the slab. When using the cut ring be sure to press the slab all the way down to the bottom so it make full contact with the lap. Next time I'm in Home Depot I'm going to be looking through the plastic pipe and fittings for larger ring material...

HI Rick, here's another old trick. take old tin cans and melt some sash-weight lead, or some weight-belt lead into the tin can. maybe a 1/2" full of lead or so. Now trim your tin can so that it has about 3/16" extra lip above the level of the lead. The trick here is to have the lip a little bit shorter than the thickness of your slab. Now put your round lead weight over the top of the slab, and happy grinding.
