Hi all,
Yesterday Wolf and I went to the Portland Regional show and as promised, we took a few pics.
We had the pleasure of meeting Dan (highplainsdrifter), his wife and family. Dan of course is as nice and gracious as you could imagine, and a truly humble guy considering the caliber of his cabs. Let me tell you........if you think his cabs look good in photos, you should see them in person!! We had the pleasure of viewing two cases full of his work and the cabs were all spectacular. Turns out we are "neighbors" and only live about 30-40 minutes from Dan so we were invited to go up to his house sometime and check out his shop and rocks. We also did a nice little trade...some Vermont Antigorite and a nice Agate Creek Agate slab for some Bruneau Jasper that Ive been wanting to try.
The Portland Regional had more minerals and jewelry and less rough and slabs than the last show but it was still fun to check everything out. I got to pick up an insane HUGE Texas Plume slab with a price tag of $700. As I picked it up Dennis said "Honey, dont even TOUCH IT!!!" lol We did walk away with a few $.25-$1.00 slabs, a flame agate slab, and a couple of small chunks of Rutilated Quartz.
A sphere machine at work. I found this one interesting........not only is there a tube that drips water continuously, but another tube that drops just a few grains of grit constantly as well. I didnt know thats how they were set up to work.
For the intarsia lovers
For the knappers
For the knife lovers
Of interest to us was the faceted stones....as we are getting ready to learn faceting. ;D I couldnt get a clear shot but this stone was faceted in such a way that it has a flying bat in the center of the stone. We had just seen this diagram online the day before so we were excited to see it in person.
And a kitty!
I managed to catch the flash on this Iris agate
And I saved the best photos for last.........Dan's cabs!!!
My very favorite.....Im assuming this is the same Bat Cave that woody sent me?
Hope you all enjoyed the photos!
Shannon & Dennis
