Recently I have been sorting through my Davis Creek Obsidian and polishing some faces on some of the better pieces. Here are some photos. The other end of the previous photo. A billowy pattern. A single line of color. My favorite multicolored piece. The previous one has an unusual translucent color in the thinner areas. My favorite color. Because this has a layer of parallel color filaments, I'm going to orient them across the long way on a narrow, high domed cab for a moving eye effect. The natural surface on the back side of a larger piece. The front side. I'm going to have to resand and polish this surface. It has a lot of scratches that I still need to sand and polish out. Bob

That's quite a pretty display of obsidian "flavors" - they'll make really nice display pieces. Good job of polishing!

Steve, I dry sand (with a N95 rated dust mask!!!!) on a very well worn 100 grit S/C belt that is loaded with sanding dust (don't run any water on it) and go directly to my 12" slow turning carpet covered wheel with Cerium Oxide as a polish medium. Bob

I'm planning on going there about the first of October (weather permitting) with a friend if his shoulder is healed by then. I'm a habitual person. I keep going back to the same spot every time I go there. The first time I went there was with my dad about 35 years ago. I don't know why I keep going back. My wife says I already have enough. She doesn't understand the adrenalin rush a rockhound gets when he or she is on a hounding trip. (She hates the term "rockhound"). She won't let me put a rockhound bumper sticker on our vehicles. She thinks it is embarassing!!! ? Bob

The first two are absolutely amazing! If you cropped those in PhotoShop, you could claim they were photographs from the Hubble Space Telescope.

All of them are beautiful, so colorful and so perfectly polished! But those ripples embeded in the 2nd one are fantastic.

Thanks for the info Bob. Not a method I'm likely to use or try soon - although it is clearly effective. Great job. Steve
