As I've browsed about on the topic of rock polishing, I rarely see any mention of tripoli as a final polish. I think it's fairly common in the grit kits, but it doesn't seem to be labeled as such. I've seen reference to it as a prepolish in some of the catalogs.
I've had fair success with it in my tumblers as long as I left it going for a full 7 days or more, and my theory is that it breaks down into finer and finer particles over time. It seems to work best on jasper, less so on agate, and I've gotten some killer mirror finishes, but only on some of the stones.
I took another whack at it in my new vibrator, and it worked great, again best on jasper. I haven't yet tried another polish such as cerium following tripoli on the agates, but i intend to.
Any comments on trilopli either as a prepolish or final?

This is the what the local rock shop sold me as a final polish. I have some mixed rock agates etc in now for nearly 3 weeks and am starting to get a decent polish I am going to let these rocks roll for a little while longer then see what they look like
