We went to a rock auction today in Jerome, Idaho. There was about 300 5 gallon buckets of rough, about 100 crates of rough, and other miscellaneous piles of rough and other stuff, a few pieces of equipment, lots of lapidary books, and some jewelry.
There was one chunk of Morrisonite that weighed about 20 lbs, but it went for alot more than I wanted to pay for it, I sure did try to get it though!
We have been to a few of these auctions, so I expected to come home with about enough to maybe fill the back of my pickup, so we left the trailers at home. Towards the end lots of people lost interest or ran out of money so lots of the stuff at the end went for real cheap. It was not uncommon to buy 2 or more buckets or crates of rough for $5. Then some buckets that had what I considered to be junk in them went for hundreds of dollars. One crate of psilomene that I thought would go for a few hundred I picked up for $5.00. A bucket of peacock ore that I thought would go for about 10 or 20 bucks went for $145.00.
The auctioneers were a fun bunch and we all had a really fun time at this auction. (The last rock auction we went to the auctioneers had no sense of humour and were lots of times just plain rude.) So we all enjoyed ourselves today and got some cool rock to boot!
Here are a few pics.
Chris taking a break while we were waiting for someone to bring us a trailer.
The reason we were waiting for a trailer to show up
A whole 55 gallon bucket of tumbling rough, we had to empty some of it out just to get it onto the trailer, some really cool stuff in here.
Had a blast today, just had to share it with ya all!!
