I know I should know what this is, but the old brain has been developing some blank spots, and this is one of them. A name for the rock from which I cut this cab would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom

Hey Tom! Could that be from something I sent you? I have some stuff like that that I literally stumbled over at Lake Lowell a couple of miles from me. I call it "Lowellite" See lower right.

Nancy - yes, in fact this was in the package you sent me. It's one of the ones I haven't identified yet. It looked like it should just fall apart due to all the obvious cracks, fissures, pits, etc., but it didn't - it is very hard and quite stable, although I did manage to eat away one or two very small areas around the edge. It's a really pretty cab in person - the camera doesn't capture the gleam because of the totally neutral colors, I think.

PS - even though it held up to polishing, I'm glad I didn't try it in the vibe - I did all the shaping and polishing on the Expando belts and polishing disc.

I'd know it anywhere. well not really but thought there was a good chance it came from my stuff. early in the spring I was walking around the lake and had to step into the woods about 10 feet to avoid walking in water and stumbled over a rock. Took a second look at it and decided it might be something. I love the natural colors of cream and rust, brown, yellows in it. I'll send a few more slabs your way. I have a few cabs done from it and really like how it works up.
