Well I found out that I have been using Aluminum Oxide for the last few months and thought I was using cerium oxide !!! bummer and nmo ones fault but my own. I have several rocks that I want to finish as good as I can..I have some Tin Oxide and Cerium Oxide ordered..I would like to order some Titanium Oxide..but I cant seem to find it. Do I need to just put my finished stones into a clean barrel and re tumble with Tin Oxide ??
Thanks Dwight P
PS anyone tried mixing Aluminum and Cerium Oxide togather...I have many pounds of Aluminum to git rid of ;-)

I have 2 lbs of aluminum oxide that will never get used. Why? Because it's not even worth using. If I were you, I'd run the rocks in pre-polish for a week and then re-polish them. I wouldn't chance ruining the cerium by mixing it with that junk aluminum oxide either.

John, that is what I've done with my alum oxide. Used it as a second stage pre-polish on tricky material that is hard to polish. Did it help? I guess that is a matter of opinion. What I noticed was that after a good pre-polish, with a decent semi-gloss on the rocks, during the first day of alum oxide polish I actually lost a little shine. Then after the polish started to break down, they did become a little shinier than they were at the end of the regular pre-polish. Did this make for a quicker run? No. Did it hurt anything? No. Was it fun to experiment? Yes. Am I nuts? Yes. But for me, fooling around and trying new things is part of the joy of tumbling. I figure as long as no one is hurt, killed or mamed, and nothing blew up, it's OK. Experiment and have fun is my best advice for this hobby. There are no set rules, just general guidelines that help to follow. Later all, Don
