Your bogwood (wonderful, beautiful piece that it is) looks like the round, hovering laser/taser ball that Luke Skywalker was practicing defending against with his lightsaber on the M. Falcon...

VERY cool, those cross sections in the limbs are outstanding! And the "masked bandit" is so clear Adrian

Jason: You could have titled this one "How to drive a paleobotanist crazy" . They would be turning this sphere over and over looking at all the bits of wood, and other material in it. Woody

LOL heck yeah! I wish I knew what type of wood this was. I'm terrible at my pet. woods... The only one I know is Oak from the Deschutes canyon. Trust me - I've already spent some time "rolling" it around in my hands looking for interesting material in it.
Hopefully one of these days we'll get a heavy rain. If it does there's some bog wood over in Washington which years past we've found a few pine cones trapped within! That's my next sphere if I can ever get the piece of rock I've been waiting to fall out of the cliff.

Incredible preservation of the rings. It looks like you could count the rings and figure out how old the tree was.
