I got this sculpture in the late 80s. Recently I wondered what it was worth, and I was surprised at how few comparable there seemed to be out there - or maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. (click for larger) It is about 9lbs and is emeralds in matrix, mostly black tourmaline and something gray I did find a few other carvings in google, mostly smaller, and one other figurine, a little bigger at 12lbs. The 12lb figurine sold at auction for $1800. I think I paid about $300 about 20 years ago for mine. Not sure. I think my matrix is more emeralds rich with less gray-white. But the other one does have some long emerald crystals, and maybe those are valued. I am talking to someone who might trade for a large slab saw, so I really want to nail down the value. If anyone has seen anything similar at a show or gallery, please let me know.

Even the white, and the Blackish is Beryl. Emerald is of course Beryl. I have no idea what it is worth. Never really seen anything like it. They are beautiful though.

O.K. It is either Brazilian or Columbian emerald. Closer to Brazilian. The black is tourmaline and biotite mica. Has gray and white quartz and the lighter green is beryl. As to the value, it is worth what someone would pay for it. Because it is carved, it is worth more than the emerald value. None of the visible emeralds are gem quality. But, it is definately worth what you paid for it and then some. Just my :2cents: worth. Ken P.S. Very familiar with NC emeralds from Crabtree mine and Hiddenite.

No idea on value, but if you can get a saw for it, oh yeah!

I think Ken has it right. I was thinking Colombian, but Brazilian makes sense too. The small shop where I got it had more Moroccan stuff than anything, but I thought they had said Colombian.
I figure it must have doubled in value over 20 years, but my hope it might trade evenly for a $1000 saw is fading fast.
