Seemed folks enjoyed my Masked bandit sphere I recently finished. Here's my newest one just finished this afternoon. It measures 3-1/8" diameter and is made from a piece of Glass Butte Rainbow obsidian. The first bullseye came out awesome... the second could have been better, but still has a nice look! This sphere is on it's way to a new home tomorrow already. Enjoy! Jason

That's incredible! How do you get that little ball stuffed inside that big ball like that? Just kidding.
A better question would be ... What are the odds of finding a piece like that and having everything line up so perfectly centered?
Darryl.

Actually when cutting spheres from Rainbow Obsidian you will always get the bullseye on both ends. It just happens to be how long a person grinds it to bring the pattern close to the surface. This one here was actually a good percentage of luck when I cut the blank. The second bulls eye could have been a bit deeper - but if I had gone deeper I would have lost the nice purple eye.

They are fantastic, both of them! What a shine and the eyeball patterns are hypnotising!

From the title, my first guess was malachite - what a nice surprise. Beautiful.

Thanks much for the great feedback - I've done spheres for years...and to be honest I only make a couple a year. Just don't have the time to pursue it. Many people hate making obsidian spheres due to the softness of the stone and the problems of easily being scratched, however it's one thing I've really gotten the hang of and have made many of them over the years. Just an idea I still cut spheres "Old Skool" Style LOL with 26 saw cuts, and hand grinding corners etc... This rainbow sphere pictured from rough rock to finished product has about 14 hours of my time into it. Then I made it for a good buddy of mine so I had to cut him a good deal and if you figure it out I made right at $3.50 and hour labor (then minus out overhead - lights, water, electricity, grit, grinding cups - Well, I guess you make spheres cause you love to ;D
