Monday must have been the Christmas exchange day at my house. I was packing up my box for my recipient, having a great time grabbing stuff to send off, when all of a sudden one of our dogs started growling at the front door.
I went to see what the commotion was all about, and there in the cloudy, cold wisconsin day was a large flat rate box with my name on it! It came from none other than Woody (The wood butchering elf) Woodyrock!
Well, being as patient as the rest of you unruly rock hounds I just had to cut this baby open as soon as I finished with the package I was getting ready to send.
Here's most of what was inside. Woody collected this all himself, which is extra special to me! The thought of such beautiful material to be collected is just mind boggling to me!
(The rug is 24"x36" for a size comparison.)
Wow, what a selection. I was taken by surprise as I opened it and saw what was residing in there! At first glance it was a plethora of pet wood, agate, and jasper. Upon closer inspection I also found common opal, a bunch of carnelian, thunder eggs, a few limb casts, and probably more I'm forgetting about.
Here's a bunch of pictures of the stuff, and there's probably that many more pictures I didn't take. (It was 9 degrees out and my hands went numb )
First off is the largest of the pet wood pieces. This stuff is so cool! You can see the growth rings in the big chunk!
Next we have some red moss from Black Butte CA
Holy Crap! A piece of Bat Cave Jasper!!!
A huge piece of Maury Mt. Moss!
A gorgeous piece of Tahoma!
Fire Agate
Thunder eggs
Nephrite
A beautiful piece collected from Mt. Saint Helens
Common opal
Cady Mt.
Look at the beautiful blues in this piece from Beaver Valley WA
Warm Springs OR
Awesome red moss form Clay Canyon UT
Stinking water. The white plumes in this piece is amazing! I see now I photographed the wrong side.
Cary Ranch OR moss
Kramer Hills CA
Agate nodules? from Red Top WA
Whew, that about covers it for now. I'm sure theres several more outstanding hunks of unbelievable rock in there, I just haven't gotten them photographed yet.
I have to thank Woody again. I'm not that great with words, but this is way more than I ever expected! There's stuff to keep me busy for a very long time in here. I'm going to enjoy working it, and spending time working it with my family. I believe a family that plays together stays together, and this will be a very big part of that catalyst!
I would also like to thank Shannon for taking the time to organize this exchange. Without your time and effort you put into it, nothing would have come of the idea.
Thank you so much Woody!
Merry Christmas Everyone!
Nate
