These are obsidian, but not really black. Comes across in person as more of an extremely dark red color. I'm thinking maybe "rainbow obsidian", but not sure. There is some kind of whitish inclusion that makes some of it look like it needs to be wiped off, but really, it's in the stone. I have a hard time with the bail wraps because of the small size of the piece and the large size of my fat fingers. Thanks for looking, Tom

C'mon, Tom you should know obsidian doesn't have to be black. Great stones. Like the set.

Oh, right, I know obsidian comes in a cornucopia of colors and forms. What I was thinking was that this set looked black in the photos, but it's really not black. That's all .... Tom

Nice set, I do miss your wire wraps you were really getting good. I am not a fan of groove wrapping, I know alot of people like it better. Donna

Yep, Donna, I'll get back to "normal" wraps in a bit - but a bunch of the ladies that frequent the beauty shop where I take Mom have asked for "sets" - so far, I've only made 2 sets with earrings. The problem is, I haven't been successful at wrapping little cabs, like you would use for earrings. So groove wrap is where I'm at on them for now. I even had trouble just wrapping the bail on these earrings!

I think you are doing great Tom! I love all the verities of obsidian because it is so pretty! I also have been trying to wrap some earrings and have not been successful yet. Now they are all packed up and will be attempted again after the move. Fran

Fran, I bet you're really getting excited about moving! I always thought that was fun, in spite of all the hard work involved. And such a nice place you found, as well! Good for you.

That is a lovely set you made. I find wrapping earrings to be challenging becuase they have to be exact mirror images. I think groove wrap for earrings is perfect even if the pendant is traditionally wrapped. Just my thoughts although I haven't groove wrapped yet. lol
