Those are some great finds your dad dug up. It looks like there is writing on the ax in the second pic, can you make out what is says? The designs on the stove parts are so pretty and it looks like the end of the mystery item was threaded (maybe wrong wording) so it could be screwed on to something. I love old things. Thanks for sharing.

I love that kind of stuff! The gold country is full of it if you metal detect. Used to have a shelf full I left at the ranch but I never thought of how pretty those stove parts are. Those are an interesting and ornamental collectible.....Mel

Your "threaded flask" looks like an alternate form of an old snuff box. In the late 1800's and early 1900's (gold rush time) snuff was common place and some form of cocaine was in everything from health tonics to soda pop. It's estimated that aspproximately 25% of Americans were using cocaine in the era. Given the conditons of the minimg camps, it's not surprising that many similar items would show up.
Failing that, it may simply be a perfume vile. Less romantic and less likely in a mining camp.
Darryl.

It looks like there is writing on the ax in the second pic, can you make out what is says? It says "YATES & CO CAST STEEL" Maybe the mystery item is a snuff box, it seems upside down though, my dad thinks it could be from a carbide lamp, but hasn't ever seen one with a part like that.

The Brass bottle does look like a snuff box of sorts and the top spear head (one blade) looks as tho it may have been used for sealing work because it is rather short to do anything other than startle a Whale !
Neat collection ;D

Now that is a bunch of really cool finds! I have no idea what that last one is but the snuff really sounds plausible. Fran
