picasaweb.google.com/abuelitocarlos81/NewAmmys42 allow me to introduce crystals amethyst from piedra parada, las vigas, veracruz,,,these crystals are known world wide,,,they only come from one spot in mexico,,veracruz, piedra parada,,the coloring of the crystals is a beautyfull work of art,not one is the same,,,,these are the crystals i use in my silver work,,,,the mines are located in the canyons of the high mountains, these miners have to make their own black powder and their own explosives, there is no power there for machines, also machines wouldnt be able to get to the mines, some miners have to be lowered down to the mine opening by rope to enter the mine and to exit the mine,we have an indian friend that we collect with,we scout the canyons for a break in the walls and we squeeze in and see if when it split there was a vug,and if there was we collect,,,some cracks in the canyon wall have no vugs,so 90 percent of the time dry run,,,,,of course at this time we dont collect,to much narco activity and killings, also military everywhere looking for narco hiding,so we now are in the idle mood,,,ok merry christmas ab

I'm guessing these are pretty close to the most popular hi end amethyst known as Guerro Crystals? I know the Vera Cruz's are right up with Guerro's. They are outstanding crystals... well formed and beautiful display pieces. I have a larger guerro with a enhydro (trapped water bubble) in my collection. Purchased it years ago. If you do want a nice amethyst for the collection these are the ones to go with.

I'm in need of some education here. They are very nice crystals, but not what i would be looking for in amethyst - very pale color. Is the value in the crystal shape itself?

picasaweb.google.com/abuelitocarlos81/AmesthystCruzMine# sorry jolly about some one stealing,,,sad sad,,,toad, here is another one ,,,,the value is not in the color or the crystal, its in both, crystals in piedra parada are different than those of guerro and else where in the world, color in parada is found mostly in the tips or front of the crystal, where as guerro is a full color in the crystal, then again the color of guerro is different also,as in jxr, color is different and crystal different, also piedra parada amethyst make great displays for collectors,,toad, for cut stones the jxr is the best, piedra parada few are used to cut gems,if you take one from jxr and one from piedra and one from guerro, you can say they are rare rare rare, because there will never be another like either one of them,,,,,ab

Toad - These crystals are collected for the pure nature of formation and the locality. Due to the hostile terms in the region these crystals have become very hard to get and bring a healthy price based on those reasons. You are correct if your looking for something with a deep, dark purple then yes a person should look towards Brazil, Uraguay or even the British Columbia material. The Guerro crystal I have does have a darker purple than average, but still does not compare to the Brazilian material. Yes you are right some of them are not that exciting, but others are very nice crystal habits. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - This goes for all stones I think for each person... I know I personally am not attracted to Priday Plume... Man alive some people with kill for the stuff, not sure if it was because I spent years learning, and working for Howard Dolph I just seen tons of the stuff, but Priday just doesn't rub me the right way lol. Now if it came from the old windmill bed I like it a bit better.... but I'd much rather see a rare plume no one else has. Hope all had a great Christmas! ;D Jason

Not insult taken, abuelito. Just saying they are not my thing. If I had some, I'd throw them in the tumbler - which of course would wreck their value as crystals. Iwas just saying that some people like natural crystals and collect by provenance. Others don't. As an amethyst, these don't turn my head at all, I'd prefer chevron or cape amethyst. But I can appreciate why you and others would like these from piedra parada. Just not my thing. What can I say, I'm a peasant. ;D
