The directions that came with my new QT66, for stages 1,2 and 3 it calls for 5 ounces of grit..and for the final polish it calls for 6 to 8 ounces..thats strange as every thing that I have read suggests 1/2 the ammount of grit level or usage be used for the final polish...I guess I could throw the book away ;-)

every thing i've seen on the web says use half the amount of polish also. gemworld.com states a 8 to 1 or 10 to 1 ratio of stone to grit and 16 to 1 or 20 to 1 ratio of polish. so for 1lb of stone 16 oz would be 1.5 to 2 ozs of grit and 3/4 to 1.5 ozs of polish. i'll have to dig out my scale and see what a tablespoon weighs "if i can find it" P.S. my last batch took all most 1 lb of 60/90 and three weeks before they where were i wanted them and i'm going to try to reuse the polish since i'll have one barrel just for polish when my 33b gets here

I had no idea that polish might be re used? Is this so? If it is, is there an abrasive life that this has and eventually you dump it, or do you just add a liitle more polish to the mix?

I use Aluminum Oxide from "The Rock Shed" as well. My results have been excellent. My shine has been terrific on a wide assortment of rock types. Ron
