My Son, Daughter and myself were able to get out rockhounding in the Mt Saint Helens area during the holidays. We had a beautiful sunny day even though it was quite cold. We found some nice carnelian, but the finds I liked best were the sagenite. Here is the one my Daughter found. This is one I found close to where my Daughter was digging. An end view of the dendrites. The top view. A Close up of the sagenite. Thanks for looking. chasfire

Man, those are really nice. Love the sagenite and dendrite mix. Only other place I've seen that is in the Nipomo stuff and those aren't carnelian like yours are.....Mel

You have searched long and hard to find this material, but I can see all that fossicking has paid off big time. Really beautiful material, thank you for sharing these finds with us. Woody

Nice finds! Congrats! Sagenite is cool stuff and your daughter's find is top notch. The combo is also fantastic.

Nice find. I found some agate apparently can turn to carnelian from some places (like humboldt county beaches). I'm sure it is due to exposure to sunlight/radiation it had not gotten before.

Thanks for all the comments. I was truly surprised when my daughter cleaned up her piece and I saw the sagenite, then after polishing the dendrites popped out. When she first found the piece I thought it was a chunk of jasper.
I have been back since, but haven't found anymore sagenite. Will have to go back again sometime soon.
