I'm having a difficult time identifying this rock. It appears to have some characteristics of stromatolite, but I haven't been able to find any similar pictures. It was found in a glacial deposit in cental Minnesota. The rock originally measured about 4" diameter and 1 1/2" thick, is about 6.5-7 mohs and takes a polish well. This cross section is about 3"x1".

Looks like a form of Maryellen to me...but then, you may wanna wait for northshorerocks or mel to respond to this as well. They may have another insight.
