Read the tutorial that Randy did just above this one. Then you will need pliers. 4 1/2" ones work best.....flat nosed, chain nosed, round nosed and either side cutters or end cutters. For the wire, the best and easiest is 22 ga. square for the main wires and 22 ga. 1.2 round for the wrap wire. Some use quilters tape(1/4" wide) or you can use painters tape and cut it to size to help hold the wire to the stone when starting, as in a third hand. Got all that? ? Now go do it. Waiting......still waiting....... Just kidding....just have fun. Ken

Hi Alison, Ken's right, square and half round wire is very good to use. If you want to get some copper wire to play with, most craft stores carry a coated copper craft wire that won't tarnish or make your skin green easily. It's usually round wire, but if you can find square or even better half round too (it lays well and makes a cleaner bind), all the better. Once you get the hang of copper, then move to sterling silver. We can suggest places online for you if you want to go that route.
Craft stores usually carry a five pack of wire tools. You might want to wrap some electrical tape or duct tape around the ends to start so the wire doesn't get too marked up while you are working with it. Sometimes grabbing and moving wire or crimping will make marks with the edges of the tools.
Yep, Randy's tutorial is a great place to start, and if you have any questions, he checks in regularly and there are lots of others who will most certainly help.
Welcome to the board! Have fun with it! Jo

You might want to buy some inexpensive cabs to start with--they are much easier to wrap. Tumbled stones can be wrapped, but they take (for me, anyway) more understanding of the process and a bit more creativity to get the stone secure. Once I did a few cabs, I found it easier to "transfer" the understanding to more cantankerous forms.
