Man....cannot tell you how long it's been since I actually looked forward to going to the mailbox! Seems all we get is junk, junk, more junk, and bills (rated in w/the first set of junk! LOL). BUT........Today, I went down there thinking there would be some more of the affore mentioned, and instead....there's a little box!!! Threw the truck in to park, and scrambled to find a loose key, or something sharp to open it with......all the while scolding my 23 year old son for not having his knife in his pocket.......LOL So, this is a completely unexpected, and unannounced box I get, from Kap...I just could not wait to get the thing open!!!! I don't find crystals, so this is kinda neat!!!! THANK YOU!!! I love them, and now I gotta figure out something pretty to do with them!!! Ain't they just pretty!!!! I wanted to post this all day, but stinkin phot bucket is screwy! tried 3 times earlier to upload pics, and it would'nt let me...finally get them uploaded, but it wont let me down size them, so sorry dial-ups, I tried!! Thanks for lookin'......and THANK YOU KAP!!!!! Marie

I am glad you like them. They are small but when cleaned up are mostly water clear. I use them by just squaring the end and adding a bail. I can usually pick up a hand full after a good rain. I knew that with your talent for creating things that you could find a use for them. Keith .

I like that, how nice. I'm all for surprises too, wish some of the members here who sell stuff would do a grab bag/box type of sell where you pay's your money and it's a surprise what you get, well other than an empty box that is. I'd got for that...lol
That looks to be fun rough to play with!

Very nice surprise indeed Marie. Nice crystals for sure. Can't wait to see what you come up with for these.
Kap, did you clean them with oxalic acid? They look pretty clean to me. You are so nice to send them to Marie.

Marie they are just Quartz Crystals. Drocknut I did not clean them just rinsed them off and sent them. Chromenut I like your idea! I will try and get something up and post it this weekend. Keith

Kap, there is no such thing as "just quartz crystals"....lol.
We have a guy in our club who studies quartz crystals. I heard him give a talk once and was totally blown away. Made me look at quartz crystals in a whole different way. Each one is unique like snowflakes and the variety of sizes and clarity is amazing to me always. I collect some once in a great while and try to clean them with oxalic acid (wood bleach) or strong vinegar. Have to neutralize it with baking soda after I get them out but it does a really good job of cleaning the rust off of them. Unfortunately it takes longer than just a quick dip in water but can be rewarding. :2cents:

Diane, I dig crystal plates in South Carolina, some that weigh a couple hundred pounds. I love crystals and I use Super Iron Out to clean them with. A lot of the time you can not see if the crystals are clear or smokey or amethyst until you soak them for a few days because of the Iron staining. It is always a nice surprise when you get them out of the acid and you see some purple . The ones I sent just have mud on them and should not need to be soaked. A lot of them are so clear that when you put them in a glass of water you can not see them. Keith

Keith, I've used that Iron Out, good stuff. I didn't think of that when I posted. Definitely less dangerous than acid. I'm with you, always a nice surprise getting them out and seeing what was hidden by the crud. Wow, a couple hundred pounds, awesome. How about some pics on the specimen topic? hmmmm. I only have one that's about 5 pounds, had to buy that...lol. Last year someone got a smoky cluster that was several hundred pounds, definitely an awesome sight. Here's a link www.mbmg.mtech.edu/museum/museum-exhibits.asp That clarity is great. I never thought about putting them in a clear glass of water to "not" see them...lol. I've got some really clear ones I'll have to try that with when I get a chance. Marie, I'm sure looking forward to the pics of your creation. You got us all waiting with anticipation  Chromenut, a pineapple??? Ok, well I can't envision that but that sure sounds interesting. Think I've hijacked this thread enough...lol. Sorry Marie. Diane
