Hello,
I'm raising a little more money for storage by selling small FRB's of my PA Amazonite/Moonstone. This stone comes from Delaware County, PA and falls in the overlap of Microcline Amazonite and Orthoclase Moonstone. Our local geologist also calls it Perthite.
The rock can have typical Amazonite minty green color, but also has golds and pinks. It can have bands of smokey quartz running through. The layered nature of this rock gives it schiller and the inclusion of other minerals can give it really cool optical effects when moved in the light.
The rock runs a Mohs hardness of 6-6.5. It can have softer spots and can be crumbly in spots particularly around the quartz, but with a little stabilization using super glue, it should be no problem. It takes a great shine.
This rock is best hand worked, but I have tumbled it with great success. I would just give a word to newbies that, being on the softer end of the scale of tumblable rock, it can be a challenge, so if you are just starting out, this isn't something you should attempt without some experience.
Here is a pic of one of my tumbles
Here are some hand cabs that I've done. Because of the reflective nature of this material, still pics do not do it justice! One of the things that I love about this stone is that every stone is so different.
And here are a couple of videos of some cabs that I've done so you can see how it comes alive when it is moved in the light.
I'm offering a small FRB of assorted slabs for $15 including shipping. It should hold at least six slabs but if more fits, I'll fill it. I do sometimes cut my slabs a bit thicker to accommodate high domes for this chatoyant material.
If anyone is interested in a med FRB of slabs and rough, I will do one for $35 including shipping. This might be a nice opportunity to practice cutting for proper orientation (cutting direction to get the best optical effects), rather than on more expensive material, as was suggested to me.
If interested, I can also add slabs of blue, yellow or rose quartz that I find locally. I can also send you pics of the slabs I will be sending if you like.
Anyone interested, please PM me. Thanks alot.
