I just got some sodalite slabs off of ebay, they are a brilliant dark blue with some nice white lines, I can't wait to get started, although I need to cut some and break others and probably get more, what are some other rocks I can tumble with it, or should I just stick to getting more sodalite? Is bloodstone about the same? I have time to figure this out though as I have both barrels running on my 33b and they will be going for awhile.

I'm really love the look of sodalite but I can't get it to shine like I'd like...though I think I have alum instead of cerium oxide. The rest of the mixed batch (also from the rockshed) seemed to come out fine...I only had real problems with the green aventurine and the sodalite, while shiney, wasn't AS shiney as I'd like. Let me know how yours turns out.

I looked up in my book, National Audubon Society Field Guide to Rocks and Minerals that Sodalite has a hardness of 5.5 to 6 where Bloodstone is 7. Being new to rock tumbling, I do not know if 5.5 to 6 is too soft for 7? That is a question I would like to know.
Other rocks with 5.5 to 6 hardness are (thanks to the website given by Sandsman) Hematite, Beryllonie, Rhodonite, Orthoclase, Brazilianite and even Obsidian (however, I have always read to tumble Obsidian by itself).

thanks for the info, it will be awhile before I get it done as I have two loads going now, those pesky apache tears and mixed loads of crystals, but once it is done I'll get a pic up
