I know, I'm not that funny... Ha ha... Anyway, I wrapped the 3 cabs I did yesterday for my brother, his wife, and the last for a friend. These are all done in 22ga. square SS and 22ga half round SS for the bindings. I got the amethyst done first. Because I cabbed this stone quite thick, I wrapped it with 6 wires, and could have used more. What a bear! I got to the part to make the bail and wondered what the heck will I do with all these wires? LOL! Well, I just started twisting them around and got them out of the way enough to not cover the stone too much. I'm not super happy with this one, but it turned out OK in the end, so I'll be giving it to my sister-in-law. Here's the small porcelain jasper from Amber. This was fun to cab. Nice stuff and it takes a super polish. I decided to try groove wrapping this for a more masculine look. This is for my brother. Last I have the doublet I did from NM material my friend Jeff shared with me. I did another groove wrap on this too. I wanted to get this done for his birthday which was a few weeks ago... Now it'll just be a thank you gift. thanks for looking, Nate

really like the groove wraps too; I'm going to have to give that a try. The first wrap looks good too, I know what you mean about not knowing what to do with the bail wires. On your half round bindings, I find that it helps to lay the square wire flat on the table and pin the tag end of HR wire down with your thumb while you bring the long end of the wire up and over the square wire. then flip the square wires over and repeat. this give you nice and tight wraps, although it is slow and tedious.

They're great Nate. Like your style with those accent wires on the first one.

They are all nice. Wow, six wires I would have trouble even wrapping those let alone knowing what to do with them. It doesn't even look like you used that many until you get to the top.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! I was at a local art show last month and there was a lady there selling wire wraps. She mentioned she likes using enough wire to completely cover the side of the stone, so the wrap doesn't look out of place. That was my motivation for the amethyst wrap. Here's a side and back view for those interested. Now you can see the root of my frustration! Nate

Nate they turned out super! I think the one from me was imperial jasper. You guys are so inspiring and have such patience to perfect your skills! The hard work is really paying off! Amber

I forgot to mention, I saw Jeff at work last night and gave him his wrapped doublet, and he loved it. He also gave me the amethyst, so I'm going to make his wife a gift from that too.
