Any idea where it is from? The Blue looks like it could be Smithsonite.

I would echo highplainsdrifter on this one. I have a piece of Smithsonite from a childhood mineral collection. The minute I saw the colour and texture, that is what came to mind.

The red spots could be hematite. It "bleeds" like that when cut I believe. Don't know what this is though but it's cool.

Looks Aquamarine-ish to me. Wonder if the red spots are garnet.

I would go with smithsonite or possibly hemimorphite. Hemimorphite has the same electric bluce color and could explain the red spots.

The red spots looks like it could be garnets, I have a few rocks from N. Carolina that has garnets and looks like that and I cut a quartz and garnet and it sort of turned my water and wheels on grinder likewise. Donna

Maybe he hasn't seen it yet! I can scratch it with a knife, so it's not very hard.

I have some Amazonite that looks similar. Mine has some iron oxide staining that when hit with the grinder, will turn muddy like the "blood" you describe.

I concure, has very visable layers, or banding that both these types will display. Amozonite will not be banded. I would lean towards Smithsonite over Hemmimorphite only becasue good blue Hemmimorphite is not as common as good blue Smithsonite.

I can't guess on the blue, the spots are almost certainly hematite.
