Very nice specimen, it looks like being the very heart of the tree or branch. Any pet wood pattern on the lateral surface?

The sides are a little different then what you normally see in the local pet wood. I will try to get pictures of the sides while the sun is out today. I really must find a better camera for close ups.

BeLinda, just a suggestion, if you raise the rock above the background 4 or 5 inches (or more if possible) on something that will hold it up, like a large headed nail or small block of wood, your camera will focus on the rock and not the background. That might help.

Hey,BeLinda. Thats a great specimen, whether its wood or not. I've never seen pet wood like that, but that doesnt mean it isnt because I've never seen it. :)There is a great variety of wood throughout the belt of Texas where we are located. Anyway, nice. Later.

Seeing the outside, I've collected similar wood to this, but never with the rings so colored inside. Great piece.

Well after taking it to the rock club meeting last night , we have drawn the conclusion that it is not petrified wood. Next guess anyone.

Oh believe me, it was in my pocket yesterday and I never made it by the saw, very tempting though.

Hard to say what it might be. Looks like the rings in an agate but I would think it could be some kind of rhyolite. Some kind of petrified seed pod or something. Fran
