I recently bought a box of spencer Opal for my wife. Here is the first piece she worked. She made her first triplet from this one. I was able to capture only a wee bit of the fire. Woody

There is definitely fire in that one, you captured it well. Spencer is known for it's opals so hope you got a really good batch.

Very nice. Spencer is NOT easy to work with, especially compared to some other opals. It occurs in such thin seams.......Ive got a piece sitting around here somewhere that Im saving for triplets.

I'm too chicken to even try any of the Nevada Fire Opal! Isn't Spencer supposed to be a bit more stable? I also ran across a website stating the Spencer Opal Mines were for sale. Something like 2 million....which included all the equipment, houses and outbuildings and even the property of the owners in California. I would love to win the Powerball one of these days...I'd BUY IT!!! Too bad they won't allow a lease option....I'd even do that...if they'd let me work for the payment. Steve

Yes, much more stable than VV opal from Nevada Steve. has Shannon notes, the fire Woody shows often occures in very thin layer, sometimes not so thin. But still a material that much be doublet/triplet in order to properly set into jewelry. Nice piece Woody, Spencer has a unqiue colration to it that is not seen much in other opals. I can almost see them pinks. Dont hesitate to still stablize it at this point to insure a bigger finished cut.
