We have a new friend we met at a local flea market. He makes some really nice artistic pieces, knives and canes with deer antler handles and whatnot. We showed up about the time someone handed this to him: He traded for a couple knives. It's about 14 inch by 12 inch diameter and about 15 inches long, it must weigh well over 100 lbs. I'm not sure if it's agate and opal or all agate. I didn't get a good pic of the blue chalcedony. I'm trying to find out what it is and what it might be worth. The gut who brought it said his cousin found it in the woods, presumably in the NW. I don't imagine it has traveled too far, but you never know... Should it be sliced? It could be several nice table tops : Lee

Be a shame to slice that.

It sure looks like petrified wood to me, but that's just my uneducated guess.

Whatever it is it's gorgeous and YES slice it! Use it in something beautiful that goes in a house or on a body. Too often gorgeous pieces like that end up buried into obscurity in a rock pile, rock garden or shed. Let's see those slabs!

Looking at it again, looks like some of it could be opalized. You could compromise and cut some up for slabs leaving a piece for a specimen. :2cents:

It does look semi opalized. Cutting may be out of the question unless I find someone with a 30 inch saw or a drag saw, it's a little too big for a 24 inch saw.

Opalized wood was also my first thought. Be cool if it could be sliced and polished. Heck, I'd love to have a large enought tumbler to tumble that baby.
