Yep, a crappy video of an ugly guy twisting wire. ;D Lighting was kind mediocre but it gets the point across......

Wow, it does look easy. I'd have to find a way to mount the drill as I don't have a cordless that has that kind of base so it will stand up on it's own. Hmm, could ask the neighbor to hold it. My wire just got mailed out today according to Rio Grande so will be waiting with anticipation to try the twisting out. Did you use the square wire to do that? Thanks so much for the tutorial/video. Diane Oh, and what's with that crazy guy sticking his tongue out at the end...

Diane- yep, square wire. It's the only wire that will look twisted after you twist it. It really is as easy as it looks.

Actually that is a very good video! I can do that with a rotary too, right?! Thank you very much for such a short, but very educational video!

Hey Randy, that wasn't half bad! Beats trying to twist the wire by hand with two pliers! Maybe even I can attempt that now. Fran

Thanks for the video Randy!
I have been trying here and there to twist wire with no success. I'll give this method a shot and see how it works. I only use half-hard wire and am hoping that is not my issue. I would guess that dead soft would twist easier but am not sure. Thanks again.

You and Cathy done good Randy. I'd say Cathy makes for a good producer/director/camera woman.
Just want to mention that after twisting the wire and taking it out of the chuck, I bend the end back straight (in case I need it) instead of snipping it off. I know, I live dangerously, LOL.

Yeah, but I (should have mentioned) that when I cut my three strands of wire for the wrap, I usually cut one of them slightly longer (1/4th inch) to compensate, but I'm learning that it doesn't really matter because the twisted wire is gonna be the bail anyways so not too much extra is required after the final binding at the top. Donnie- it's possible but be careful. Those rotary tools are very fast (the RMP's are in 1000's) and the cordless drill is variable speed which can turn as slow as 60 RPM's, maybe even slower.

The rotary is variable, wouldn't have it any other way. Not sure about how slow.

Depends, is it a Dremel? The settings are on the lever. Mine's variable from 5,000-25,000 RPM's. You may want to price a Ryobi cordless drill, they're not too expensive. I think they might actually be cheaper than a rotary tool!

Nice video-but I must have the wrong link-All I found was a hot biker guy twisting wire! I always use a little pin vise to twist-and I twist after my bail has been completed because I usually only want my embellishment wires twisted. kj

Hmmmm, someone must have stolen my seat again. lol ...... I used to twist all of my relinquishment wires as well, but with the cordless. (I call them relinquishment wires because if they turn out looking like crap, they get relinquished to the scrap pile) ;D Here's one where I twisted just one of those wires, sometimes I twist two, three, or all four. I do it the same way with the little bend at the end, only difference is like what you were talking about, the wrap is almost finished when doing this..... ADMIN EDIT - repaired broken image - original code below

Naturenut, you are a nut...lol. ;-) I would probably do the same thing that is if I twisted wire ;-)

Nice vid Randy. I was surprised how fast you spun that wire. I figured you'd go slow and count the twists.
It's funny hearing your voice too - I'm used to just reading what you write lol.

Roger, I figure a person could put a small piece of masking tape on the chuck so you can count the revolutions. The drill should also run much slower if you don't peg the trigger like hot finger Randy did LOL!

"relinquishment wires " - I like that! It sounds like professional lapidary terminology!

Hey, I think I can actually do that after all. Thanks for the video. One question though. How did you get the wire so straight BEFORE you twisted it? Mine is never that straight before I start a wrap. Every time I try to straighten it, it gets a curve on the other end. (Maybe another video is in order?)
