I did these today, I attempted a video of the opal but I wasn't coordinated enough to hold the pendant in one hand and video in the other while staying in focus. Anyhow, I got a three good pics of it that show the fire, this thing is awesome!! Willow Creek jasper, look at the scenery in this one! It was cut by the same guy that I wrapped for last week..... Another one of his "Blue Mountain" jaspers, this one has cool orbs that go through the mountains.... Torquoise, I wrapped this one twice today. ;D (I screwed up and wrapped it in Gold, was supposed to be silver...... And the gold wire that was on the turquoise, I made a clone cab out of Moss and placed it inside ;D That's it! I also got another 100 feet of gold filled wire in the mail today, more wraps to come!

Beautiful, very nice. I can't believe you screwed up, say it isn't so LOL I love that opal the fire and colors are so vibrant, kinda like a spring cab. That moss is way beautiful too, glad you could salvage the wrap. Woo hoo, always nice to get more wire!

Boy, you're not kidding that's a beautiful opal. Were you nervous wrapping it? Guess so, or the Turquoise might've been wrapped in silver from the start. ;D Nice recovery and way to save the gold! Good thinking and something to keep in mind instead of cutting and scrapping the first wrap.

Thanks y'all. I always salvage my wraps somehow. I wasn't too nervous with this wrap, it's in gold-filled wire. The next one will be in solid gold wire, with just enough to do the wrap. It's a one-shot deal, no scrap, no screw-ups. That one will stress me out, but just a little bit. ;D

I received some awesome pieces of opal from board member "dbrealityrocks" a few weeks ago. The guy that did this opal is an opal guru. I showed mine to him and he showed me where and how to cut them. He also recommended an opti-visor before trying so that will be getting ordered really soon as I'm really anxious now.

I have two opti-visors in my lapidary shop and one in my jewelry studio along with a really good pair of strong cheaters(granny style glasses you can look over)
No way to work opal without them or really good light to see how to orient the stone and find the fire. Fire agate is another passion of mine too!

That opal really got my attention also, as I am beginning to learn/teach myself. Don't have a tutor, but I do have a pretty good book. "Opal and Gemstone Jewelry" by Paul Downing. Seems to be a really good book. As always, your wraps a great, I try to study and learn from you and all the other folks here. Thanks for showing those! Mike

Randy - those are all awesome. The opal is to die for. You've probably mentioned before, but how many ways/places do you sell your stuff? Barb

out of curiosity how big is the opal pendant? I have a little chunky of some material similar to it and have been waiting till I get better at wrapping to do it in full gold as the chunky cost me dearly. Its full of fire

Thanks y'all!! Barb, most of my money in this hobby comes from wrapping other people's stones, but I also sell to members of the Gem and Mineral society, craft shows, and now I have a couple on "superioragates" website. 2badfrog- The stone measures 1 inch from top to bottom and 3/4 inch across, a good sized opal!

Hey Randy,
These are amazing!! Love them all. I really like your style of wrapping.
I have a question though. Where do you purchase your wire? I hope I haven't already asked that question.
Thanks,
Deb ;D
