Hey folks! Christa and I had the chance to go play out in the desert yesterday. We were quite a ways out just before the pavement ended when we came across this cute little guy This was only the third I'd ever seen out in the wild. and Christa's first. Pretty neat! Blooms are still out here and there And these little guys were everywhere munchin' on the new vegetation Ended up out at the 4th of July butte for some houndin', hikin' and a picnic Beautiful day out there and we had a lotta fun. Got back too late to sort, wash and shoot all the rocks we picked up, but I managed a quick 'teaser' shot. I'll try and get more pics done this week Thanks a bunch for looking

It really looks like you had a great trip out there! What is the name of that little guy in the first picture? It is really cool looking! The rocks that you show a glimps of in this last picture show some amazing color and agate rings! I am really looking forward to seeing the slices you get from these! Consider me truly "Teased" ! thats a gila monster or beaded lizard, they are venomous and when they bite they clamp on and are hard to get them to release, They make a diabetes medication developed from their saliva called Byetta they are a beautiful lizard
and I think the catapillar is the monarch butterfly catapillar
very neat finds!

Ok, how do you type a theme song? Beef, your Rock Vision deserves it's own intro!
Man this stuff is killer, and it's just tease of what you found?!? I agree with Randy, I'd never be home, and the yard would be filled with gorgeous matrerial like this.

Gee, I have never heard of a gila monster being called a "cute little guy". They have a bad disposition and bite. I've only seen one and it was in a garbage can awaiting extradition back out to the desert. It was not happy. Great pictures Beef, sure wish I had been able to go out to the butte with you, looks like you sure know the "honey holes" out there... Thanks for taking us on the trip. "Teaser shot" my tushy, that's a drool shot for sure ;D

Great pictures Brian, the desert is very green right now. I wonder if those flowers are liatris. That's one of the coolest caterpillars I've seen. Thanks for the pics.

Thanks for sharing your trip. Great finds. I'm not a reptile fan by any stretch of the imagination still the Gila picture was interesting.

Cool trip to an even cooler spot. Love all the nature scenery and critter pictures. Nice to see what 4th of July butte looks like. I've heard so much about it and it and seen lots of the rocks so nice to put an image in my head of what it's like. Cool rocks too! You are a serious rock magnet beef! It's like they can't wait to climb onto your tailgate! Steve
