The local rock club had their annual silent auction today and part of it was a rockhound's estate that had been donated to the club. He was into tumbling in a big way and I cashed in. I got a couple of heavy duty home made tumblers for $5 each that are good for parts because the bearings are shot on both. The steal of the day was a 40# Lortone barrel in pristine condition. I don't want to tell you the price because you all will turn me in for robbery. OK $10. Begin eating your hearts out. I got a huge old sieve or clarifier for $5 that just fits into my slop sink: Some Brunneau Jasper for $5 that I split with a friend: And some assorted rocks for a buck apeice: And a bucket-o-rocks for $6: And Lortone 12 #, 6 #, and 5# barrels and various polishes. I couldn't believe no one was bidding on them and got them all for my opening bids. Everyone else was hovering over the rock specimens. They didn't want to mess with a bunch of dirty greasy stuff...

Sweet Sweet Deal!!!
Wow! And a bucket of Bruneau for 5 bucks!
Let's see, that's the same as a Subway footlong!
Hmmmm - I'll take the rocks.
Have at it and enjoy the spoils of cheap finds!
(Sorry for the !!!!!!!! but I'm feeling loud right now.)

I still can't believe I got the 40 # Lortone barrel for $10. When I saw it I set in my mind I would go as high as $50. Those barrels new go for around $350.
The Bruneau jasper was a steal because the president of the club, that was running the auction, really didn't know what it was and it was late in the auction and he wanted to dump it instead of hauling it and storing it. Also, my friend I split it with was doing some trash talking saying that it looked soft and probably wouldn't take a polish.
I was doing some trash talking myself like, "Man, whose going to bid on this dirty piece of junk. I'll donate $5 on it..."

Beef,
You really got me biting my tongue on the qualifications of the current president of the local rock club. The only language I could fully describe my feelings would immediately turn this into an adult website...

I bet the pres got all this dumped in his garage, and the mrs was pissed she had to park in the driveway LOL! Get rid of it NOW!
Whatever the reason, you scored BIG time, Rick! WTG!

That is a sweet haul. You cleaned up. We had specimens mostly in the silent auction at the Gem and Mineral show this weekend so I didn't put in any bids.
