Some more of this stone. I will find out for sure what it is Tuesday. It is so soft that it is actually hard to shape it. It has more of a crystal structure than anything else. Some kind of Obsidian. Burro Creek agate. A little snow flake agate one. More snowflake agate. It is hard to get a good piece of the red big enough to cab. This one has 2 cracks in it. I'll just wear it myself. Same as the last one, side view. I think this is wrapped in Silver filled wire. Is there such A thing? Can you see copper inside of it if you look at the ends of the curls? It feels half hard. I got it at the rock shop. It was just labeled as "Silver" 25 feet for $8.50. So it can't be pure silver. It is not magnetic. I used half round sterling for the wraps. Tree Agate? Or Marble? the jury is still out. It polishes beautifully whatever it is. This one Is also cracked and wrapped in the same silver filled wire. Thanks for lookin, Oh yeah, I just got some more new grinding wheels. One of them is marked as a 6mic. Is that the same as 30,000? which is what I ordered. Amy

My lord, that first one just took my breath away! It's gorgeous! It looks a lot like blue lace agate, but I'm not real great at naming stones yet so don't take my word lol. They are all very beautifully wrapped, well done!

These are all fine wraps. I think the twisted wire looks great too.

Beautiful wraps! The first one looks something like some banded onyx that I had - it was very soft, and really easy to break, even just while wrapping it.
I like the variety in your swirlies and mix of twisted and straight wire.
If the wire is copper or brass inside, and silver outside, it is probably silver plated. The price sounds like silver plated wire, as well.

Thanks everyone.
Thanks, Tom, I thought the guy I bought the blue slab from said it was Onyx. I had no trouble wrapping it, but I have to use a very light touch while shaping on the wheels. Too easy to make flat spots or gouge it. But totally worth it. It is a gorgeous stone.

that's blue lace agate from Africa, they were selling tons of it down in Quartsite this year. Great wrap!

Very nice indeed. I like the wraps with swirls wrapped around the stone. Would love to see the back to know how you did it. I like the mix of twisted wire with regular wire.

The back side doesn't always look as pretty. LOL. I'll take pictures of the back side next time. Basically I poke it under the side wires when I can, or just bend it around the edge real tight. Sometimes I bind them together in the back. Sometimes there ends up being a lot more wire in the back than in the front. As long as it doesn't catch on anything and stays put, I figure it is ok in the back, right?

All very nice! I like the loose twists...that's a great look. It frames the first one really well around the border. Tony

I was just curious about yours, thought maybe I was doing something different but sounds like I'm not alone in trying to find something to do with the wires in the back. I have one that looks like there are more wires in the back than in the whole wrap...lol. I'm with you, as long as it doesn't catch on anything I don't think the back matters as much as the front anyway. :2cents: You notice I usually don't post pics of my backs though I have done it.

I showed the blue piece to the members of my rock club and the consences is that it is either blue chalcedony or african blue lace agate. The guy I bought it from was not there.
I looked it up in a rock book and the slab I had looked exactly like the blue lace agate slab in the book. So much so that I think it is the same slab. So I concede that it must be blue lace agate. Although it was much softer than any other agates I have worked with.

Those are all nice!! I like the simplicity and smoothness of the second one. I also like the elegance of the others also, particularly the twisted wire.
