I am going to beat that proverbial dead horse.
I have been trying for the past hour to do a simple groove wrap and am failing miserably.
I am trying to follow Adrians instructions and dammit .....
First off .... what wires are you using? I see it is silver .... however .... round, half round, square ..... WOOOOOF!
Every time I try to get a grip on the cab with the wire .... the stone pops out.
I will do this if it kills me ..... maybe not tonight ...you get the point
As always ... my humble thanks

I have only done one of these so far, but I used square wire that I twisted and it turned out pretty good. :-)

Rocks ..... thank you .....
I love twisting my wire and didn't think of it for the groove this time.

Hey Julie, I've only done 3 groove wraps, but I used square half hars sterling silver for mine. It seems that the trick for me is keeping the wire tight in the groove while getting the bail wrapped. Maybe tape that sucka up!
You can do it, don't give up!

Two words-Blue tape. I tape the wire in the groove so I can work on the bail. Make sure the groove is deep enough.

Yep, Julie, I tape that sucka up close to the top to keep the wire around the cab in the groove while I work on the bail. Jo

Tape? Now why didn't I think of that? I have been using a vise to hold it all together while I wrap the bail. I have used squareHH mostly, lately have started using squareDS. The real trick, for me, is making sure the two ends meet close together right at the top of the stone, so that it isn't loose in the wire wrap. Keep at it, you will figure it out. I did!!(with lots and lots of naughty words!) Mike

Julie, the twisted square wire works well, but I mostly use 1/2-round, with the flat side showing. It kinda negates doing any swirlies around the bail, but that's ok - the whole point of groove wrapping is to minimize the wire and maximize the stone, right?

Never done a groove wrap so can't give any tips. I get frustrated by some of my cabs too so know what that feels like. I'm sure you will get that one wrapped. You can do it.

I use round 20 gauge, or 2 round 22 gauge twisted together. Although the only reason I use that is because it is cheap and locally availible. Keep trying, once you figure out the bail groove wraps are pretty easy.

Thanks everyone!!!!
OMG!! Taping the wire over the groove.
How simple is that!!
That's why I post here. The most obvious is usually the one thing I over look.
As always!!
