Fran, your Genie came with a canvas polishing pad and some diamond paste, have you tried it yet? You'd be surprised at the difference this pad will make in the final stage, but this pad will heat the cab quickly. Some rocks do better when heated, but stuff like the Fluorites and Calcites will spider-web if you get them hot.
