Has anyone tried wrapping a sphere ? I have a small sphere machine which will make spheres from 1/4 inch up to 1 inch. I'd like to wrap the larger spheres. Anyone have instructions for a project like this ? any help would be appreciated.

I have done undrilled beads before and marbles so you can but its different to flat stone as you have to build a cage for the round stone or sphere. I just do my center of wire binding and then fan out all the wires, usually 4 around the sphere after the top is bound and the wire bundle is shaped to the stone.

Thanks 2badfrog. I have an idea of what to do, but thought I'd get a little input before I waste a bunch of wire.

Sounds like it may look really neat. Make sure you share some pictures as you get them done. Fran

I'm just learning how this site works. It may take a bit of practice before I can post any pics. I'm mainly a cabber, and am just starting to teach myself wire wrapping. I've learned a lot in the few short days that I've been a member of this site, and I certainly thank everyone for the pictures and instructions that they've posted.

Thank you for posting that. It's just about what I was thinking of. Now if only my new supply of wire would get here, I could get started. Did you use half hard or dead soft wire ?

My first attempt at a sphere will be a 1" dia. silver sheen obsidian that I turned several years ago. My wife has always liked that one, so I'll finish it and give it to her on our anniversary. I'll try to post a picture when it's finished.

Thank you Nate. I've been a rockhound and lapidary since the mid 50's, but can see that I still have lots of new things to learn. I'm going to enjoy being a member. Don

It shouldn't take too long to figure it out. I may practice the sphere wrap with plain old copper wire first though, to get that figured out. Copper wire costs a lot less, so I can afford a few mistakes. Don

Hey I think of all the things I've wrapped I think spheres are the easiest of them all, I've been doing marbles a lot lately but am interested to see the spheres you make Here's a picture of some of my marbles, they're a little different than what 2badfrog posted. - Krista

Very nice job on the marbles Krista. Is that a copper wrap on some ? If so, where do you get your square wire ? Just loaded pictures to Photobucket, and will see if I can figure out how to put a picture of the machine I turn spheres on, on here. Don
